Year 5/6 Mrs Edwards / Mrs Mead
COVID-19 and Home Learning Packs for Self-Isolation
Please read this information
For all children that are at home currently; either feeling a little under the weather or self-isolating to keep yourself and/or your family safe and well, we have put some home-learning packs together to keep you busy. We want to keep your brains active so when you're ready to come back to school, you're the best that you can be!
There will be three different packs uploaded to Google Classroom for Literacy and Maths that are mild, medium and spicy, please pick a level that you feel confident accessing. If you finish spicy and need more of a challenge, feel free to e-mail Miss Hereford or Mrs Mead for extra work.
To access this work, please log on to your Google Classroom. You all have your emails as they were sent home on Monday 16th March (and in the Autumn Term on your password mats). If you have forgotten your password for Google Classroom Mr Davies can recover this for you, so if you email him from your gmail account, he will help.
YOU HAVE BEEN SENT AN EMAIL THAT HAS THE LINK TO OUR NEW GOOGLE CLASSROOM
Please join the classroom to access the work

Parents and Guardians
Please note; the Government is requiring work to be completed if your child is well. Please ensure that they are accessing this work, reading with you as regularly as possible and going on Mathletics too. All passwords were sent home on Monday 16th March, please check with your child if you have not received these from them. If your child has been absent and has not collected these from school, please email your child's teacher so that they can send these to you.
COVID-19 and Parent Consultations
Thank you for your patience regarding the cancellation of parent consultations due to COVID-19. Please be assured that any appointments booked will be rearranged at the earliest point.
In both year 5/6 classes we are discussing the coronavirus regularly with the children and the importance of hygiene. Children are being asked to regularly wash their hands and ensure that any used tissues are put in the bin before hands are washed again. We are informing children that this vigilance is important, not just for the children, but primarily for vulnerable adults that they (or staff) may have contact with outside of school.
Please continue to follow guidance that is posted on the main page of the school website that has been sent to us by the local authority.
Croeso i Dosbarth Coch. Your teachers this year are Mrs Edwards and Mrs Mead. We are really looking forward to this academic year and have lots of exciting trips and challenges planned. Please check our class page regularly for updates on what we have been doing.
This year weekly homework for Key Stage 2 will be computer based. We have created a laminated sheet for each pupil with their personal login details for each account and these have been sent home.
The school has subscribed to Mathletics to assist our pupils in practising their skills at a level which is tailor made to their ability. Pupils can gain points each time they use Mathletics. We recommend that pupils attempt to gain 500 points each week.
The school has subscribed to Bug Club which is an online reading resource. Each pupil has been allocated books that match their personal reading ability. Bug Club requires pupils to read a text and then answer targeted questions about the text to assess their understanding.
Each Monday pupils are given a list of 10 focussed spellings. These are ability matched to each pupil and will be assessed at the end of each half term. Pupils are encouraged to practise these spellings at home and transfer these to their writing.
In addition to the weekly computer based tasks pupils will be given research homework based around their topic. These tasks will be a 'menu' of choices where the children can choose to complete the activities most interesting to them. They will not be required to complete every task.

Visit to Twmbarlwm
We had a taste of the resilience Tori would have needed to do this when we embarked on an expedition to the top of Twmbarlwm Mountain. I was really difficult but we helped one another and felt extremely proud when we reached the top. It was exciting to see our school from the top.
Commando Joe Launch
We had such an interesting day when we launched Commando Joe. We have to be reciprocal when we were searching for the clues to find the pieces of the puzzle. It took ages to find our last piece. The anticipation of what might be in the box was so exciting! We can't wait to start using the activities and equipment in the top secret crate.
